New Officers Take Posts in Gays and Lesbians for Individual Liberty

Morris, Fulk, and Huff Selected to Take Helm on July 1

(Washington, DC, June 28, 1994) --- Gays and Lesbians for Individual Liberty (GLIL), a Washington-based organization dedicated to the principles of the free market, individual responsibility, and non-interference by government in the private lives of citizens, has selected new officers, who will take their posts on July 1, 1994.

GLIL's new president is David Morris, 30, of Washington. Morris, a political consultant whose past experience includes managing a congressional campaign in South Carolina's 4th District in 1992 and a Virginia House of Delegates campaign in 1993, was himself a candidate for the Greenville (S.C.) City Council in May 1993. He replaces Kelly Young, who will be attending law school at Stanford University this fall.

Assuming the position of secretary is Austin Fulk, 23, of Falls Church. Fulk is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and has worked for the National Rifle Association and on the staff of Congressman Dick Armey (R-Texas). He is a past president of Arkansas NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). Fulk replaces Richard Sincere, who will be focusing his energies as chairman of the Libertarian Party of Virginia.

The new treasurer of GLIL is Odell Huff, 23, of Arlington. Huff is a development manager for a non-profit institution in Fairfax. He is a graduate of Yale University. He replaces David Edmondson, who will continue as editor of GLIL's bimonthly newsletter, The Quill.

Gays and Lesbians for Individual Liberty sponsors a monthly happy hour at Trumpets, the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The next GLIL Happy Hour is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5. In addition, GLIL has sponsored a series of occasional debates, discussion groups, and lectures on topics of concern to the gay and lesbian community. Speakers have included Marvin Liebman, author of Coming Out Conservative and founder of the National Coalition for Understanding; Andrew Sullivan, editor of The New Republic; Franklin Kameny, gay-rights pioneer and founder of the Mattachine Society of Washington; health-care expert Richard Rue of the Chicago-based Heartland Institute; Billy Hileman, co-chair of the March on Washington Committee; Kevin Berrell of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force; and others.
